eSun PLA+ is the brand's enhanced PLA variant, and the "+" in the name refers to a tougher formulation with higher impact resistance than standard PLA. At $22 per 1kg spool, it's priced competitively with premium PLAs while delivering meaningfully better mechanical properties for functional applications — making it one of the best price-to-performance ratios for hobbyist functional printing.
In our testing, eSun PLA+ prints at 215°C and 60°C bed with the predictability of standard PLA but produces parts that are notably tougher when stressed. Where standard PLA shatters under impact, PLA+ flexes before failing — the elongation at break is closer to 15% versus 6% for standard PLA. For mechanical parts, brackets, enclosures, and any application where parts will see real-world stress, this difference matters substantially.
The print quality is good but not exceptional. Surface finish on outer walls is clean and uniform, with strong color saturation across the brand's color range. Diameter consistency is competitive with Hatchbox and Polymaker PolyLite, slightly behind Prusament. The first-layer adhesion is reliable on textured PEI plates without requiring glue stick or other adhesion aids.
The mechanical properties are the central reason to choose PLA+ over standard PLA. The tougher formulation handles drops, vibration, and repeated stress better than standard PLA without sacrificing the easy printability that makes PLA the default hobbyist material. For functional prints that don't need PETG's chemical resistance or temperature handling, PLA+ often produces better real-world durability than equivalent PETG prints.
The single weakness is heat sensitivity, which the "+" formulation does not address. Glass transition is still near 60°C, meaning a PLA+ part left in a hot car or on a sunny window sill will deform in the same way standard PLA does. For temperature-exposed applications, PETG or ABS are the appropriate choices regardless of which PLA variant you'd otherwise use.
The pricing at $22 per 1kg spool is competitive with premium standard PLA. The mechanical advantage over standard PLA is essentially free at this price point — you're not paying extra for the tougher formulation, you're paying the standard premium-PLA price. For users currently buying premium PLA for functional prints, switching to PLA+ is a no-cost mechanical upgrade.
The color range is moderate — about twenty-five options in the standard line, with strong saturation across the colors. The brand's "translucent" and "wood" variants are well-regarded among hobbyists for specific aesthetic applications.
The brand's customer service is decent but variable depending on region. Users in North America generally report responsive support for quality issues; users in some international markets report longer response times. For hobbyist use, this is rarely a deciding factor.
